What’s Not Included in Our Fees

Our flat-fee pricing covers your paralegal advocacy, document preparation, filings, and court appearances where appropriate, but some third-party or administrative costs are billed separately. These are called disbursements, and they are always charged at cost, without markup.

Common examples can include court filing fees, process servers, record searches, and any fees required by third parties to move your case forward.

Since these expenses are outside our control and paid directly to third-party providers (not our firm), they are not included in our representation fees, and they do not include HST unless the specific third party charges it.

We outline these clearly so you can plan ahead and avoid surprises, while still receiving the benefit of flat-fee paralegal advocacy focused on your Small Claims Court matter in Ontario.

Risks, Limits & When It May Not Be Worth It

Small Claims Court is designed to resolve disputes efficiently, but every case carries procedural risks and practical limits. Trial dates vary widely across Ontario, evidence rules still apply, and not all disputes justify the cost of filing and representation once the strengths and weaknesses are weighed. Filing in the wrong jurisdiction, missing a limitation period, or advancing a claim that lacks supporting proof can result in delays, refiling, or dismissal.

We help clients evaluate their case early, including when it may be better to adjust the amount, pursue settlement instead of trial, or reconsider filing entirely. Honest guidance isn’t about pushing every case forward — it’s about helping you make a smart, strategic decision based on time, cost, evidence, and realistic legal pathways. Clarity at the start protects your resources and keeps you focused on outcomes that matter.

Small Claims Court FAQs — Paralegal Services, Fees, and Representation in Ontario

If you’re exploring paralegal support for an Ontario Small Claims Court matter, it’s common to have questions about scope, cost, timing, and how court representation works. This section gives you clear, practical answers, so you can make informed decisions before taking the next step.

From claim limits and filing jurisdiction to flat fees and court appearances, we break down what matters most in straightforward language. Understanding the process early helps you avoid delays, refiling, and unnecessary stress, while moving forward with greater confidence and a stronger starting position.

  • 1. How much does it cost to sue someone in Small Claims Court?

You’ll pay a court filing fee of approximately $108–$229, plus your paralegal’s flat fee. You may also need to pay a process server.

Our Small Claims Court Fee Schedule is at the top—scroll up to view.

  • 2. What if my case settles early?

Our flat fees are designed to cover you start to finish, right up to and including one case conference.

If you settle early there or end up needing everything up to the case conference, it is still one low package fee.

  • 3. Do I have to pay upfront?

We offer flexible payment options and structured payment plans to keep Small Claims Court support affordable and accessible. If you need help spreading out the cost of representation, we’ll explain your available options in a simple, pressure-free conversation.

In many cases, you may be able to begin with a small, upfront deposit to open and start your file, followed by scheduled payments toward the remaining balance before key court milestones—such as your paralegal meeting, settlement conference, motion, or trial date.

We outline all fees in advance and quote payment options clearly, so you stay informed and in control while your case moves forward.

All terms are stated in our written retainer agreement.

  • 4. Are your prices competitive?

Most lawyers in Ontario bill by the hour, commonly ranging from $250 to $450 per hour.

At Cordaie Paralegal Services, we offer transparent flat-fee pricing starting at $1,995 before HST, which includes one case conference and early, court-ready case preparation—so you can plan your legal costs with certainty.

Because we charge by the file—not the hour—clients often save thousands in legal costs, while still receiving LSO licensed paralegal advocacy and courtroom-ready preparation.
