Frequently Asked Questions

Here are answers to some common questions.

Legal Concerns

  • What is the typical legal process like?

It is normal for people to be curious about what they can expect. There is one problem with the legal process, which is that there is no "typical" legal process.

Although many proceedings are similar, and case lengths can vary widely in some instances, every case is unique. What do you think about this Q&A? We know what you think: so why do we offer it?

Here's the thing - it's just one more way for us to show you that we have a tailored approach to your needs and to reassure you that our team does its absolute best to keep you informed and prepared every step of the way. We can provide you with a general description of the process and events involved in legal proceedings if you wish, or even provide you with loose guidelines for all of the different types of legal practice areas that we cover.

A timeline that can be provided to you with events that take place within a specific timeframe is one way we can help you. Moreover, we can also take note of events that may have a more important bearing on the circumstances of the particular case than others

During your free consultation, you will have the opportunity to discuss all of these issues and more in more detail. Get in touch with us today at

844-4-WIN-4-ME to schedule an appointment as soon as possible!

  • What should I bring to the consultation or first meeting?

This is a good question since our clients don't know what to pack. Depending on your specific claim or case, you will need different paperwork or documents. We can, however, provide a general answer here. You will need to bring any relevant paperwork, ID issued by the Canadian or provincial government, and any existing legal documentation (such as police records).

In advance of your consultation, Cordaie Paralegal Services will provide a list of what you need to bring. In the case of public records, we are sometimes able to fetch the documents on your behalf.

  • Will I have to attend court?

This is a question that everyone wants to know. It is only human to wonder if you'll have to go to court because of the specific legal issue you're battling. As you probably know, there's no hard-and-fast answer here, because it's all case-by-case. Based on your type of case, there may be options to settle out of court.

During our initial consultation, we can provide you with a more in-depth look at the typical expectations for the practice area that covers your case. We will be sure to focus on giving you as much insight as we can. For example, while Small Claims Court matters can often be mediated, criminal law may have no other option besides attending a court hearing depending on the charges being brought.

  • How long do I have to file a lawsuit?

One of the most common questions with a variable answer is this one. In our FAQ, we explain to you all the variables involved and how you can decide what is the best course of action.

It is more convenient to call us for a free consultation at 844-4-WIN-4-ME. For example, the statute of limitations on a Small Claims Court lawsuit in Ontario is two years, whereas a Human Rights Code complaint is only one year. The type of claim also affects how long people have to file, and that's determined by the type of case as well.

We have expertise in all areas of law that we practice, which is why we try to provide as much information as we can without stating a straightforward answer because it doesn't exist. Once we know the case parameters and the other details involved. We always strive above and beyond to provide you with an insightful answer even if it isn't the answer you wanted.

  • Who can bring a case on behalf of a family member who died?

People often have many questions when dealing with estates and cases on behalf of family members. It is not uncommon for disagreements to arise regarding who can or cannot bring a legal case against someone on behalf of someone who has passed away.

Wrongful death occurs when someone dies as a result of the carelessness or negligence of another individual. For the family of the deceased person to obtain compensation for the loss of their loved one, they will be required to file a wrongful death claim. Upon the death of a loved one, the Family Law Act of Ontario provides for a recovery of financial losses, as well as the loss of care, guidance, and companionship that result.

As long as the deceased was the head of the household and the only breadwinner for the family, we are going to calculate the loss of earnings for the deceased. To determine his or her expected retirement age, we will consider the number of years left before retirement. As well as inflation and promotions, we also consider the loss of potential household income due to inflation and promotion.

As part of our services, we make sure that all the medical expenses associated with the loss as well as the counselling are considered. It is important that all of these factors are taken into consideration, and more, to ensure that you receive the maximum payout to ensure the future of your family.

Cordaie Paralegal Services are here to help you if you or someone close to you lost a loved one because of someone else's neglect. Call us today to find out how we can help you. It will enable you to start rebuilding your family's future as soon as possible so that it can grow and prosper.
