General Legal Questions
What is the difference between a licensed paralegal and a lawyer?
Licensed paralegals and lawyers are both legal professionals regulated by the Law Society of Ontario. However, licensed paralegals are authorized to provide legal services only within specific areas of law defined by the Law Society, while lawyers may provide legal services across a broader range of legal matters. If your matter falls outside our authorized scope of practice, we will let you know and, where appropriate, recommend that you seek assistance from a lawyer.
